So, just before Henry VII became King, Richard III was king. Henry was part of the Tudor House, and Richard part of the Lancaster House. These had been fighting for the throne and dividing the country for over 20 years. So Henry and Richard had this big battle, and Richard lost and died. Henry was given the crown right there and then on the battle field.
