Marijuana was legal until 1937. For a period of US history, if you had agricultural abilities, it was illegal to NOT grow marijuana. Marijuana was considered a staple crop for a long time. It makes a better and stronger paper, cloth, and burnable energy source than the traditionally used sources. It can be used for many things using less energy to produce and makes less byproduct.

I count 27 including Obama. There is evidence that all of them but Washington, Jefferson, Monroe, Polk, Fillmore, Pierce, Buchanan, Lincoln, Hayes, Garfield, Theodore Roosevelt, Wilson, Truman,Carter, and the two Bushes used tobacco in some form at some point in their lives.

Cigars seem to be the most popular. Clinton got some fame for his cigars and Grant was usually found with a cigar handy. Jackson and Cleveland liked to chew.

Ford was a frequent pipe smoker. FDR was a chain-smoker of cigarettes. Reagan appeared in cigarette ads when he was a movie star but did not smoke by the time he was president so he may not have actually smoked.

The following presidents who smoked were: John Adams, Thomas Jefferson, Andrew Jackson, William H. Harrison, John Tyler, Milliard Fillmore, Franklin Pierce; also was a heavy drinker, James Buchanan, Andrew Johnson, Ulysses S. Grant, James Garfield, Chester A. Arthur, Grover Cleveland, William McKinley, Theodore Roosevelt, William H. Taft, Warren G. Harding, Franklin D. Roosevelt, Dwight D. Eisenhower, John F. Kennedy, Lyndon B. Johnson, I'm not sure for Richard Nixon, Ronald Reagan during his film days, George W. Bush, and Barack Obama. This is a long list of presidents who smoked and you could say put their lives in danger every risk but it's their choice as long as it doesn't affect the country.
