One famous person is Baron von Stueben, a Prussian military officer who showed up in the camp of George Washington at Valley Forge in 1778. He convinced Washington to let him help train the troops. He became a great success, he trained the troops, instilled discipline in the troops, redesigned the camp layout to reduce diseases and food contamination. He also designed a program to train large number of soldiers, he trained 100 soldiers and then had those 100 train large numbers of other soldiers. He became a favorite of General Washington after Valley Forge until the end of the Revolutionary War.
