soldiers slept where they could. While on campaign they may just place blanket on the ground and make the best of it.
if they had provisions they put up a wedge tent and slept several men in one small tent. if they were to set up a more permanent camp where they planned to winter over, they might dig down into the ground and build a log room where they would have additional shelter from the weather and might be able to provide for a small fire for some warmth.

∙ 9y agoThe soldiers were housed in barracks that were often drafty and difficult to heat. When they were out in the field, tents were seldom available and the men slept in the open.
