Colonial reaction to a new tax created hostility toward the crown at the time. This hostility was manifest in the Boston Tea Party, which threw the new shipments of tea into the waters surrounding Boston and helped foment open rebellion which would lead to the Revolutionary War.

The Boston Tea Party was the reaction by the colonist.

There were multiples incidents of various "tea parties" that aimed to overthrow tea largo. This was because the British lowered tea prices in order to generate revenue for the crown, something the colonist dislike. Not only that, the colonist received most of their tea by smuggling; in other words, the lowered priced British tea was a threat to smugglers.

Actually, the " colonist" didn't think that. It was a small group of men who were protecting their own economic interest. The British had LOWERED the tax on tea and this made the price of the tea smuggled into the colonies higher than the British. The smugglers were upset and two of the biggest smugglers in the colonies were Hamilton and Hancock. Hancock was very wealthy and he funded/supported the Son's of Liberty. Without him there would have been no Sam Adams nor the Son's of Liberty, but the whole purpose was to protect his economic interests. The people in the colonies paid LESS taxes than people in England paid.

U.S. Colonists protested the Tea Act, which was imposed on them by England. It created a monopoly that allowed only the East India Trading Company to trade tea with the colonists. This allowed the company the ability to charge whatever they pleased for the tea. The colonists protested the Tea Act through the Boston Tea Party. The Boston Tea Party was a protest in which Sons of Liberty disguised themselves as Native American warriors and boarded three British cargo ships, dumping all of their tea into the harbor.

The Boston Tea Party was a protest of the lowering of the cost of the British tea by the government and the East India tea company who had gotten a bail out from the crown in 1773. The smugglers in the colonies found the Dutch tea that they sold was higher in price than the British tea, so they staged the Boston Tea Party and others in harbors in the colonies ( Hamilton was one of the largest smugglers in the colonies and a founding member of the Son's of Liberty). The cost of tea also went as far back as the Navigation Acts and the restricting of trade to and from the colonies passed from 1650-1733. Tea was also taxed in 1767 in the Townsend Acts.
