The Battle of Yorktown sealed the deal as far as which side won the war, even though it did not end the war. Some sea and land skirmishes continued for awhile after Yorktown. The new British commander did not order a cease fire till some months after that and the war was not over till the Treaty of Paris was signed about a year after Yorktown.
