Pretty much the same way religion started. Someone smarter than the average claimed they had something special that made them unique and stupid people followed him. Fast forward a few hundred years and you see people are still following the same thing without even knowing why! Idiocracy is and has been in human's DNA.
A constitutional monarchy is a form of government in which a monarch acts as head of state within the perimeters of a written (i.e., codified), unwritten (i.e., uncodified) or blended constitution. It differs from absolute monarchy in that an absolute monarch serves as the sole source of political power in the state and is not legally bound by any constitution.
Most constitutional monarchies employ a parliamentary system in which the monarch is the ceremonial head of state and a directly or indirectly elected prime minister is the head of government and exercises effective political power. In the past, constitutional monarchs have co-existed with fascist and quasi-fascist constitutions (Fascist Italy, Francoist Spain) and with military dictatorships.
Contemporary constitutional monarchies include Australia, Belgium, Cambodia, Canada, Denmark, Japan, Jordan, Lesotho, Luxembourg, Malaysia, Morocco, New Zealand, The Netherlands, Norway, Spain, Sweden, Thailand and the United Kingdom. i got this of of wiki
Well, back in the Egyptian days, everyone was equal. That was, until, they decided they wanted to have a leader. So they appointed a pharaoh, which is basically a "king." After ancient Egypt died out, people still liked the idea of a leader, but decided to call it a different name. So they came up with "kings, queens, princes, and princesses". They also believed that from then on, anyone who descended from the leader would be in line to inherit the throne after the king or queen had died.
If you're talking about the British monarchy, then that's a bit different. The Royal family started after the Viking raids in the ninth century which made the Anglo saxon kingdom of Wessex emerge as the dominant English kingdom. Alfred the Great managed to secure Wessex and Mercia taking the title of "King of England". This was the start of the British monarchy.
