The 15th Amendment, passed in 1869 and ratified in 1870, established that no citizen could be denied the right to vote because of race, color, or previous servitude.
Unfortunately, this did not extend the definition of "citizen" to include women, so it was not until the 19th Amendment (1920) that women were guaranteed this right.
Amendment 15 gave all people the right to vote regardless of race.
