The classical civilisations were the civilisations of the Greeks and the Romans. The Persians had a lot of interactions with them. She tried to conquer Greece but the Greeks' defence of their land was successful. For a while Persia also subdued some of the Greek states in Anatolia (modern day Turkey), most notably Pergamon. Later the Greeks, headed by Alexander the great, conquered Persia and her empire. The Persian also fought wars against the Romans for centuries. They fought over the territories of Mesopotamia (modern day Iraq), which changed hands several times, and Armenia, which came under the alternate control of the Romans and the Persian depending on the twists and turns of the conflict between these two powers. When not busy with war, the Persians also traded with the Greeks and the Romans as they lived along the Silk Rad and was a trading intermediaries along this route.
