One of my favorite women in Greek mythology was Atalanta, she was raised in the wilds. Later she participated in the voyage of the Argonauts, and defeated the hero Peleus in Wrestling at the funeral games of King Pelias. She also hunted the Calydonian Boar, and then was found to be the daughter of a king who insisted she marry, she insisted the man beat her in a foot race or be put to death if he lost; it is for that myth with the race of the golden apples that she is most well known.
