The emigration to Madinah was a very important step in the development of Islam. after Hijra, the proper Islamic state was developed and so the quranic commandments addressing communal affairs were revealed. Muhammad was able to concentrate solely on delivering the true message of Islam once he was away from the violence of Makkah. Hijra also saved the early muslism from the tyranny of makkans otherwise, the new religion would have perished in the dust of Makkah.

The Hijra (migration to Yathrib) was immensely crucial in the very history of Islam. This was because:

The Muslims were now safely away from the torture and oppression of the Makkans. Yathrib, now Medina, would act as a very base for Islam. Here they could publicly pray and preach their religion, this would come in handy for Muhammad, would now use this to invite other to Islam. The very reason Islam spread so rapidly and successfully was mainly due to this.

The migration saw a new concept of brotherhood arise. Each migrant was paired with a local residing in Medina, he was required to share his property and accommodate him. They did so in a wonderful fashion, outlining the importance of brotherhood in Islam.

Muhammad was now appointed the leader of Medina. He was the general, the judge and the man who'd settle all matters. This gave him power, which he would use to spread Islam.
