Japan was fairly well finished, after TWO ATOM BOMBs were dropped on them. When the Soviet Union (Russia was pre 1917 & post 1990) declared war on them, it was fight until ordered differently. The Japanese Army stationed in Manchuria, put up a fight, but it was strictly a "token" resistance.
