NVA tanks captured the South on 30 April 1975. However, under the Ford administration, US Military forces had to recapture the vessel Mayaquez, which was done at a high cost of US personnel & equipment. Consequently, many people, including the US Veterans Administration may count May 1975 as the official end of the Vietnam War.

after taking my draft physical and being 1A in 1969 with a lottery number of 16 wondering why I had not been drafted I was classified 4Y it said I could only be drafted in time of war or extreme emergency...Vietman was not a declared war...so I was not drafted...I have no idea why I was classified 4Y
