See Google. There are two answers to your question. [1] If you want to see maps that historians have traced the battles of WW2, I would recommend the Center for Military History. They have a website that has history of various campaigns and maps to show the progress and movements of the armies. [2] If your question relates to real maps used by soldiers during the war, then you have to really search for them. I have a collection of maps printed by the US Government during WW2. You can also see some of the original intelligence maps at the National Archives (NARA) at College Park MD.

Today the U.S. and its partners find themselves in an era in which they are unlikely to be fully at war or fully at peace.?

Both !... It is generally accepted that there will be no 'world war three' between the 'superpowers' - HOWEVER - there is now a higher threat from rogue 'factions' of 'third world' countries than there used to be.
