Undeniably, World War II was the most destructive conflict ever waged by human beings in the era of recorded history. That good things came of it is equally undeniable. For instance, the genocide of the Jews was halted, numerous sovereign nations were released from bondage to authoritarian (and oppressive) control by Axis Powers, and the totalitarian regimes of those Axis Powers were resolutely overthrown.
Without WW2 there was no Saving Private Ryan, no Schindler's List (maybe even not a Spielberg). No computer games, no COD: black ops, no Zombies, no conspiracies, no WW2 movies, no books about WW2.
Prevention of genocide would be one.
Another would be defeat of the Nazi forces from conquering the world.
