The difference between the Holocaust and American slavery is that the holocaust was an attempt to exterminate an entire race of people. Slaves were brought to America to make a profit or to work for an owner. Because of this difference it is widely mistaken that the amount of people killed in the holocaust was greater than that of slavery. Most people would agree that the number of Jewish people killed during the holocaust comes to a total of 6 million with another 5 million killed for the aid or harboring of a Jew. There were roughly 30 to 40 million slaves killed before ever reaching America. That's not including the number of slaves that were killed after reaching America. Only 10 to 15 million slaves made the journey.
