South Vietnam's strategy was to destroy the Ho Chi Minh trail, send individual companies on search and destroy missions, use "tunnel soldiers" to collapse NVA tunnels. Attack the north with air power and land power.
America's plan was to bombard North Vietnam into giving up.
Nixon's plan was to vietnamize the war, pull back US soldiers in an attempt to retain honor, and bomb north Vietnam into negotiating.

To train the Vietnamese Military to defend their nation based on US Military doctrine. The US tried every way possible to draw The Vietcong into a conventional fight by setting up fire bases and probing enemy camps. finally they tried to use air power to bomb and destroy supply lines and bases.
