Well, the Civil War was about the North fighting the South over the issue of slavery and trying to get rid of it. It was also known as The War Between the States, War of the Rebellion, War for Southern Independence, and War of Northern Aggression. Historical texts rarely refer to the Civil War as the American Civil War, but by these names.

Union soldiers were usually called Yankees or Bluebellies. Confederate soldiers were called rebel, Grayback (because of the color of their uniform), Grays, Johnny Reb, Johnny, or just plain reb. Confederate guerrillas were called bushwhackers.
