Germany sank the Lusitania, killing 128 Americans aboard the British ship. The Zimmermann note offered German aid for a Mexican invasion of America, but was intercepted and sent to America. The American economy was closer to those of Britain and France, who has borrowed money for the war, and it would be more apt to collapse if those nations lost the war.

Because of the Lusitania. The Germans suck the ship which had almost 200 Americans on it.

-The sinking of Lusitania was WWI's 9-11. Congress had already wanted to enter the war because of Germany's "unrestricted submarine warfare." This meant that even though the USA was "neutral" (so to speak, the USA was aiding her allies) Germany would sink American ships military or civilian.

because Germany blew-up a british ship that was carrying weapons, American's had been warned not to board the ship but several did any ways. There is a common misconception that the ship that was blew up was an American ship but it was not.
