George Read, a signer of the Declaration of Independence, lived from 1733 to 1798. He lived in New Castle, Delaware and was married to Gertrude Ross Till.

George Read, first son of William Read (Philadelphia merchant, 1797-1846) and Ann Mc Call (Philadelphia 1772-1845) and grandson of George Read (signer of the Declaration of Independence). Born: ? Died: ? US consul at Malaga (Spain) from 1839 to 1851.

He signed the constitution.

The first signer was john Hancock, who's large signature was ex-planed with " so old George can read it without his glasses."
