The US flag in 1920 looked slightly different from the current one. It had 48 stars which were a representation of 48 states up to 1959 when two more states were admitted to statehood.
In 1832 American consisted of 24 states. The flag had 13 stripes, alternating red and white and 24 stars in four rows of six.

When Taft became President, the US flag had 46 stars. In 1912, New Mexico and Arizona became states 47 and 48.
