The Homestead Strike was when, in 1892, Andrew Carnegie reduced wages at his steel mills in Homestead, Pennsylvania and the union workers refused to accept the cut. The company locked out the union workers and hired nonunion labor and 300 armed guards. The locked out workers gathered weapons and , on July 6, a battle broke out killing ten people. After that, the state militia began to escort the nonunion workers to the mills and after four months, the strike collapsed, breaking.
Hope I helped!
Differed from previous large-scale strikes in America's history such as the Great RR strike of 1877 or Great SW RR strike of 1886, they had been largely leaderless and disorganized mass uprisings of workers. Homestead Strike was organized and purposeful, a harbinger of the type which would mark the modern age of labor relations in the U.S. The major push of labor unions made a stronger voice than individuals. Larger groups could form to affect decisions made by management/companies/factories, ect... to better working conditions.
