A:Genesis chapter 12:4 says that Abraham, then known as Abram, was 75 years old when he left Haran.

.

Genesis 17:17 says that Abraham was exactly 100 years old and Sarah was 90 years old when Isaac was born. These seem improbable ages for them to have their sons, not only because of their extreme ages but because they are such nice, round numbers, implying that Abraham was not really a hundred years old. Coincidences like this, and Isaac being exactly 60 years old when Jacob was born, point to legend not fact.

Even when Abraham died, his age points to the secret use of numerology based on the number 17, as do the ages of Sarah, Isaac and Jacob :

  1. Abraham lived to 175 (5 X 5 X 7)
  2. Isaac lived to 180 (6 X 6 X 5)
  3. Jacob lived to 147 (7 X 7 X 3
  • Each lifespan involves a perfect square (5, 6, then 7 in a numeric series),
  • the third factor also forms a series (7, 5, 3)
  • in each case the sum of the factors is 17.

Then we find that Genesis says Sarah lived to 127 years, which is the sum of these consecutive square numbers plus 17 (127 = 52 +62 + 72 + 17). All too much of a coincidence to be plausibly true.

Jewish answer:

Abraham began to question idolatry at the age of three (1809 BCE).

As a teen, he was imprisoned for three years in Cutha and seven years in Kardu (Talmud, Bava Bathra 91a), for having questioned Nimrod's idolatrous cult.

As was customary, Abraham got married in his teens.

At the age of forty, Abraham reached full understanding of the ways of God.

At the age of forty-eight, Abraham was vindicated when the Tower of Babel, an idolatrous temple, fell apart.

At the age of fifty-two while he and Terah were in Harran, Abraham first began to have a circle of permanent disciples.

At the age of seventy, the covenant of Genesis ch.15 took place. Abraham's first prophecy.

At the age of 75, God told Abraham to leave Terah and settle in Canaan.

In that same year, Abraham visited Egypt for three months.

At the age of 86, Abraham had his first son, Ishmael, from Hagar.

At the age of 99, God told Abraham that Isaac would be born.

At the age of 100, Abraham had his second son, Isaac.

When Abraham was 102, Ishmael and Hagar were sent to live separately.

When Abraham was 137, the Akeidah (Genesis ch.22) took place. Sarah died in that year.

When Abraham was 140, Isaac got married.

At the ages of 141-145, Abraham had the last of his children (the six sons born through Keturah).

When Abraham was 160, his grandson Jacob was born.

Abraham died at the age of 175 (Genesis ch.25).
