The Homestead Strike was when, in 1892, Andrew Carnegie reduced wages at his steel mills in Homestead, Pennsylvania and the union workers refused to accept the cut. The company locked out the union workers and hired nonunion labor and 300 armed guards. The locked out workers gathered weapons and , on July 6, a battle broke out killing ten people. After that, the state militia began to escort the nonunion workers to the mills and after four months, the strike collapsed, breaking

The last claim under the Homestead Act was made by Ken Deardorff for 80 acres of land on the Stony River in southwestern Alaska. He fulfilled all requirements of the homestead act in 1979 but did not receive his deed until May 1988. He is the last person to receive title to land claimed under the Homestead Acts.
The passage of the Homestead Act. This provided incentives for people to take up farming in places such as Oklahoma and the Great Plains in general. This eventually became a problem between white settlers and Native Americans. President Lincoln was very much interested in this plan to have more settlers move westward.
