women were challenged with expressing themselves in a patriarchal system that generally refused grant merit to women's views

Not all women were treated in this way. Consider the following women who ruled countries in the 16th century:
Queen Mary I of England
Queen Elizabeth I of England
Queen Mary of Scotland
Queen Catherine of Navarre
Queen Joan III of Navarre
Queen Isabella I of Spain
Queen Joanna of Spain
Queen Anna of Poland
Some of these women were pretty fierce. And my suspicion is that these were not the only women in 16th century Europe who had important roles to play.
Women in the 17th century were expected to look after their household, make sure servants did things the right way, milking cows, feeding animals, growing herbs and vegetables and cooking. Some had jobs such as tailoresses, milliners, dyers, shoemakers, and embroiderers. Others were usually domestic servants until they got married, then had to take care of their families health, ect. There were also those that played the role of the midwife.
This is a very complex question, since women were treated differently depending on which country you are asking about. In some cultures, then as now, women were treated like property; for example, in Africa, women were enslaved just like men were, and sold to slave-owners in other countries. Most women, even in Europe and in the new world (America) had no legal rights; they could be married off against their will, and their husband or father made all the decisions. But there were exceptions. In certain places, women (especially those in the upper class) were given education, and some were treated with respect. However, throughout the century, women were continually taught that their most important role in life was as a wife and a mother; nearly all careers (teaching, medicine, law, etc) were closed to women.
In the mid-1600s, both men and women sailed from England to the new world of America, some seeking religious freedom and others seeking to participate in colonize America. And while most of the colonies maintained traditional gender roles, the fact that women were in a new environment led to some changes. We know about certain women who were preachers (Anne Hutchinson is a good example), a few who were land-owners once their husband died (Maria Van Cortlandt Van Rennselaer for one), and some who were authors and poets (such as Anne Bradstreet). The Quakers were among the first in the New World to offer education to both boys and girls. But it should be noted that in most cultures, conservative elements who dominated the clergy were opposed to giving women education or allowing them to have rights that were equal to men's.
women were seen as objects, childbearers and morally inferior due to there direct lineage to Eve( according to the Puritan Beliefs)
women in 17 the century were confined to the domestic work or household work.they were not educated and does cooking sewing etc.
there roles where to clean, cook, and not talk. they didnt have much freedom at all, just to do what they where asked. and they went along with it.
all they were good for was housework and marriage.
Their role was to make a home and raise children.
Yea, they were definatly queers
To work around the house and take care of the children.
They have changed a lot because, of benefits equality and there are more day cares around.
Women were nurses. They also worked in factories while their husbands, brothers, and fathers were gone fighting in the war.
The Job of the men were mainly to hunt and to build houses.Rather than the the womens job was to make clothes and cook food.
Women's roles in history in the 19th and 20 century mainly revolved around the household. They bore children, were nurses, and teachers. During periods of war, they were drafted into the labor market.
