Declaring war on Russia. Russia was friendly towards Germany and sent her supplies. When Germany broke her non-aggressions pact with Russia she cut her army in half and sent a very good portion of her army into Russia. This split the German army and brought another power into the war on the allied side.

Many historians in fact view the siege of Stalingrad as the true turning point in the 2nd world war.

Hitler didn't listen to his generals and this resulted in several mistakes. One major mistake was he sent his troops into Russia without winter gear or preparation. He also had develped a early jet that was faster than any allied air plane at the time, but didn't use it. Both of these were two major mistakes he made.
