By the advent of the so-called Renaissance period, in the 14th century. Renaissance was (litterally) the "rebirth" of the philosophy, knowledge and art of the ancient Greeks and Romans.

The term 'dark ages' by the way was coined by the Renaissance people, who looked down on their predecessors who had not recognised the virtues of ancient art, literature and thinking. In reality, it was a period full of developments, it had had the Crusades, and universities and other centers of learning had developed all over Europe.

The Dark Ages was a period of European history characterized by societal deterioration after the collapse of the Roman Empire. It is also known as the Early Middle Ages.

It lay between the collapse of the Roman Empire and the beginning of the High Middle Ages. It lasted from around the fifth century AD (400's) to approx. the 11th century AD (1000's)
The term "Dark Ages" refers to the period from 476 to 1000. Historians sometimes use this term, but more commonly refer to the period as the "Early Middle Ages." The term was popularized by 19th century English historian Henry Hallam. He used it to refer to the entire Middle Ages and argued that the Catholic Church restricted progress.

410 AD with the fall of Rome.

--------

The normally accepted date for the fall of Rome is 476. I have my own issues with the date, but if you tell your teacher it was 410 and cannot explain why, you will probably not like the result.

late 1400's with the start of exploring.

The men returning from the Crusades helped a bit because they brought new ideas and things, but two things really added to it. People began exploring for new ways to get to Asia for trade goods and that brought them to New Worlds. The invention of the printing press also helped because with print the spread of ideas could be open to everyone.

Different answerHistorians mostly do not use the term dark ages. Those who do have them ending at some time between 700 and 1066, with the commonest date being 1000.

The Dark Ages are thought by different people to have begun in the 5th century, with the most common date as 476. The ideas of what the Dark Ages were ranges widely from one person to another, so the ending dates also vary, but the commonest seem to be 1000, 1066, 1300, 1453, and 1485.

The term is not very useful, and its meaning is deceptive. It was originally intended to convey the idea of a time with an obscure history, but gradually took on the unintended and unsupported connotation of a time of little cultural advancement, ignorance, and misery.

The term usually used today for the 5th to 11th centuries is the Early Middle Ages. The rest of the Middle Ages are called the High Middle Ages (1000 to 1300) and the Late Middle Ages (1300 to 1453).
