The main crop in Jamestown in 1607 was tobacco. It was grown by English settlers and sold to the Native Americans and to people back in England. It was easy to grow and brought in a lot of money.

very gross, they had hominy and peas porridge in bad times and in good they had chicken stew with corn and animal fat, everyone had wine in good times and boiled water in bad.

Tobacco saved it. John Rolf introduced tobacco to the colony and because of it tobacco was grown everywhere it could be planted and was used as money.
