Voting changed in America from the early days to the present in a significant way. For instance, back in 1788, only men who were over 21 years and paying taxes were eligible to vote while today everyone who has attained the majority age can vote in the US.

In the early days of voting, only white men could participate. Later, black men were also allowed. As time passed, women also won the right to vote.

Voting is also more influenced now. Early on, it depended more on a candidate had to rely more on his skills, history, and interactions with reporters and voters. In modern times, he or she will use social media, television, and other high impact means to spread a message. Often, the message doesn't even actually relate to what the candidate can do, but is more a play on voters emotions.

The way people vote is also different. People used to write in or check off candidates. Now technologies are often involved. Some people bubble in a form to be scanned, and others may even use a touch screen computer at their voting precinct.
