Two term limit - Total of 8 years

A term of service is 4 years. The President of the US can serve two of those 4 year terms (8 years). In addition, in case something happens to the president before or after him, and he has to finish up or begin another president's term, it cannot exceed 2 years. Maximum years is 10

Exception:

Franklin D. Roosevelt was the only President who served 1st, 2nd, 3rd and the beginning of his 4th term. he died in office while serving his fourth term FDR served 12 years and some months. He died in office.

Can one who's been president become vice president?

Yes, as long as he/she does not exceed the term limits of the office. The term limits for president are two terms or a maximum of ten years (yes even though a term is four years, you can replace a president for two and still be elected for eight of your own years). If someone has already served two full terms as president then he/she cannot run for VP because there is the potential that he/she may exceed ten years.
