Article I, Section 2 of the Constitution requires:
No Person shall be a Representative who shall not have attained to the Age of twenty five Years, and been seven Years a Citizen of the United States, and who shall not, when elected, be an Inhabitant of that State in which he shall be chosen.
There are requirements which are established by the US Constitution regarding the service of legislative branch members. To hold a position within the legislature the individual must be at least 30 years of age, they must have been a citizen of the US for at least 9 years, and they must have been a resident of the state they will be representing for 7 years prior to their campaigning.

They must have been a citizen of the United States for at least seven years and be an inhabitant of the State from which they are elected.

Senators and representatives must live in the states which they are elected. Representatives must be at least 25 years old, and senators must be at least 30. A representative must have been a citizen of the United States for at least 7 years, but a senator must have been a citizen for at least 9 years.
To become a Senator in the US Senate, a person must be a citizen of the United States for nine years. A Representative in the House of Representatives must be a citizen for seven years.

A person must be a U.S. citizen for at least seven years to be eligible to serve as a U.S. Representative.
