Each candidate has his or her own characteristics, but here are a few generalizations. Most have come from a northern European background. A few have come from poor families, like Lincoln and Truman. Most, however, have come from middle class or upper middle class. With the exception of President Obama, most presidents have been white. Most have been married, Protestant in religion, and financially successful themselves. They are usually very outgoing individuals, and enjoy public speaking and meeting people in groups. They must be willing to compromise when necessary and respect the feelings and ideas of members of the opposition party and be able to communicate effectively with the heads of foreign governments.
