Yes. It is very simple and only about 10 questions. Only takes a few minutes. This is needed because the information is used to give federal funds to states, to determine the number of House members your state should have in Congress and a whole bunch of other things that will benefit you in the long run.

The reason that information is required is because it is used to determine the number of Representatives your state will have for the next ten years. It is also used to determine how many electoral college votes your state will have, which is a core component of the election process for President of the United States. It is true that the law says that you have to answer all the questions. However there has not been any real prosecutions of persons refusing to answer the other questions beyond the number of persons living in the house.
