You are required under The Constitution of the United States only to answer the question of how may people live in your house. The reason that information is required is because it is used to determine the number of Representatives your state will have for the next ten years. It is also used to determine how many electoral college votes your state will have, which is a core component of the election process for President of the United States. It is true that the law says that you have to answer all the questions. However there has not been any real prosecutions of persons refusing to answer the other questions beyond the number of persons living in the house.
