Hannah Lynch was a governess in Carrentrilla house owned by the local landlords, the Handcocks. She wrote a novel called "Through Troubled Waters" but most of the copies were bought up by the Handcocks or Lord Clanrickard and burned. Only a couple of copies survive, one of which is in the possession of Tommy Keaveney, Lissduff. The names in the book are thinly disguised as being about the locals, but (having read the book) it is extremely turgid going! She was a friend of the young Douglas Hyde whom she met in Dublin on 9th Dec. 1887. Hyde had several of her books in his library.
