I don't think we have. They wanted to set up a system of government where people could participate in government and have their voice heard. Today only about half the people who could vote do. People don't participate. We broke away from England because of the taxes and the monarchy. Today it is big corporations who run our country, and the rich people. There are a few in charge, and the common people don't actually have much power.

yes and no..theres no definite answer but just look at the economy today as well as the so called "war on terror".Then look at how far we as Americans have come since July 4th 1776.Also look at how we got through racism, gender discrimination against women (sexist) ,and slavery. Now you decide which side your on. Me personally i would have to say no because of how crooked America is, its all about the money and the power. I have been alive for 17 yrs. and i still have not meet a good straightforward cop who wouldn't take an incentive or a "tip" not to say that there aren't any who dont. Then there are cops who are just dicks and pull you over for anything mostly racial but the list goes on ,oil, medi-care, life insurance,j obs, taxes, gas prices etc... To me the bad just breaks the scale & out weighs the balance between good and bad. Robert, Fresno Ca, Sunny Side High school

There are five points in the Declaration of Independence. They are; All Men are created equal, the creator grants man rights, Governments are instituted to protect these rights, the Governments get their powers from man, and if the governments begin to usurp these rights, man has the right to fight back.
All these different people are able to form one country because they share many ideals, or beliefs. These ideals include freedom of speech, freedom of religion and freedom to live and work where we choose. Americans also believe in equal rights for all people.
