The seventeenth amendment changed the way U.S. senators are chosen, it was passed in 1913. Until then, members of the senate were chosen by the legislature of their states. The seventeenth amendment allowed people to elect their senators directly. (extended the right to vote more people)

Prior to the 17th Amendment to the United States Constitution in 1913 a Senator was elected by their home state's house of representatives. The 17th Amendment changed this process making Senators directly electable by the people.

They have the chance to drastically change the future, if they so choose to. Under this amendment, people who are 18 and up will no longer be denied the right to vote because of age discrimination.
