The United States received foreign support against the British forces during the American Revolution. Lafayette of France served in the Continental Army, as did Casimir Pulaski and Tadeusz Kościuszko of Poland. The French naval blockade of the Chesapeake also served instrumental to ending the war at Yorktown.

At the beginning of the British French War of 1793 Thomas Jefferson was in support of France. He believed that the Americans owed their loyalties to this country because of their support during the American Revolution.

- Advantage of fighting at home; - Popular support.
I'm pretty sure it was the french
No nation was truly 'divided' during the war. There were some people in America who supported the war(patriots) and those who did not support the war(loyalists).
France was more supportive than the Spanish were during the American Revolution. La Fayette was a great naval commander in combatting the English. The French supplied the patriots with guns and men and part of a navy, which, prior to French aid, there was none. French support may have been key to winning the Revolutionary war.
Support from the French.
