The first amendment.
First amendment.
The First Amendment prohibits the government from establishing a religion, which by implication prevents its either supporting or inhibiting religion in general.
They are separate amendments. Freedom of speech and press is the 1st amendment. The second amendment is the Freedom of religion.
gives us the freedom of speech
The first amendment of the constitution does guarantee the freedom of religion.
The First Amendment is not divided into clauses. The state religion is the first item discussed. The Amendment is stated almost exactly as the question is worded: Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the Government for a redress of grievances. The courts have held that the 14th Amendment extended these protections to state and local government as well as the federal government.
There is no amendment that gives any "rights" to a religion, except that the freedom to pursue a religion shall not be infringed. You might be thinking of Amendment I, i.e. the first.
