The general assembly, on the other hand, is usually for a single state, such as the Georgia General Assembly, or the Iowa General Assembly. Other than that, the two are very similar.

∙ 13y agoCongress means "a meeting of delegates from several countries". The Founding Fathers of the United States chose this as the name of the legislative assembly of the Federal Government, to emphasise the fact the country was made up of several countries. Some non-federal countries call their legislative assembly a Congress, and some federal countries use it for the names of provincial legislative assemblies. This usage is technically incorrect.
Many countries have a National Assembly. It can refer a single chamber legislative assembly, it can refer to both houses of a double chamber assembly, or it can refer to the lower house of a double chamber assembly.
