∙ 13y agoAccording to the US Constitution each state has 2 Senators. Maybe you meant to ask about Representatives in which case the number is based on the population of the state, higher population equals more representatives.
The founding fathers specifically set it up this way in order to create some balance. The smaller states have just as much say in the Senate while the larger states (who have more citizens and pay more taxes) have more votes in the House of Representatives.
