Most of the population of the United States is made up of white people. Of a population of 300 million 80% are white (according to the 2006 Population Estimates Program). Out of every one hundred people 80 will define themselves as white, 12 as African Americans, 4 as Asian, 1 as Native American with the remaining 3 people being made up of small numbers of Hawaiian and multiracial lineage.
