What are the benefits and disadvantages of the Chinese compass?

The main difference of the Chinese compass with the existing compass today is that the former makes use of ferrites or magnetic oxides. These are natural minerals that attract iron and other metals. Large deposits of ferrites were discovered thousands of years ago in the district of Magnesia in Asia Minor. The second difference is that the Chinese compass is always pointing on the south while the invented compass points to the north. The third is that invented compass is basically used for navigational purposes whereas the Chinese compass is used as a navigational tool and also as a beautiful piece of home décor and for Feng Shui.

Do you believe in modern Feng Shui some say its all false Only the classical Feng Shui works Modern Feng Shui has divided your place into 8 parts and uses crystals dragon carps all wrong?

There are many different schools of Feng Shui. Some are more recent than others. The compass school is traditional and originated in China. It divides your home into 8 directions according to the compass. Each direction is associated with 8 different aspirations or life goals. The Black Hat school is much more recent and began in the United States. It also divides the home into 8 segments, but the location of the aspirations is based on the position of the front door. In either system, certain objects, shapes and colours that are associated with each aspiration are placed in the section of your home or room that corresponds to that aspiration. (For example, you might put some gold-coloured coins in the corner that represents "wealth".) Both systems use items like crystals, dragons and carps to remind you of your goals. Both systems recommend clearing your clutter to help improve the flow of energy in your home and to help you focus on your goals. Being reminded of your goals all day will help you to succeed which ever system you use. (Feng Shui isn't magic. You still have to work on your goals to achieve them.)If you are Chinese, the traditional symbols might have more meaning for you, such as a three-legged toad representing prosperity. Use the symbols that mean the most to you personally and that represent your specific goals in each of the 8 areas. For example, if you are Chinese, two pink peonies mean "romance". If you are American, two red roses might be more related to "romance" in your mind. I prefer the Compass School, but that doesn't make it better any more than one religion or culture is "better" than another. There are also slightly different versions of Feng Shui in Japan and Korea. Pick the one that appeals to you the most.
