The federal government puts undercover agents in Colombia to destroy the planes carrying drugs for traffickers who are not part of the government's operations. They put bombs on the planes that exploded when the planes reached a certain altitude, leaving few traces or evidence of what happened. US marines and Army personnel were used for some of these operations. Drug trafficking provides the funds for many US political campaigns such as that of Bill Clinton when he ran for the Presidency. It also provides the funds necessary to carry out covert operations which are not approved by Congress.
