There were many events that occurred during the course of the American Revolution that promoted the freedom of the United States from Great Britain. Four of these events in chronological order include George Washington being appointed as general and commander in chief of the new Continental Army on June 15th, 1775; Thomas Paine's Common Sense publication which provided strong arguments for independence from Great Britain in January of 1776; Thomas Jefferson's presentation of the United States Declaration of Independence on July 4th, 1776; and The signing of the United States Declaration of Independence by members of Congress on August 2nd, 1776.

The earliest moment of this that i can recall would be the American revolution, where Africans were formed into state militia fighting for freedom.
