The age, political experience, and vocations of the 55 delegates of the Constitutional Convention ranged widely. Most had taken part in the American Revolutionary war and served as members of the colonial and state government as well as the Continental Congress and Confederation Congress. Most were trained as lawyers although there were plenty of businessmen, farmers, and plantation owners as well. Robert Morris and Roger Sherman signed all three of Americaâ??s founding documents. Founding father and first president George Washington was present as well. Notable founding fathers Thomas Jefferson, John Adams, Patrick Henry, Samuel Adams, and John Hancock were absent from this particular convention.

== Political parties didn't really come until after the Constitutional Convention. At the CC, everyone was in pretty much agreement that the Constitution had to be fixed, and fast. Of course, there were some differences, but the first political parties didn't evolve until Washington's presidency. In his presidency, two of his cabinet members, Alexander Hamilton (Treasury) and Thomas Jefferson (State), did not agree on anything at all and hated each other, and the first political parties, the Federalists and the Democratic-Republicans, were formed.
