Albany Plan of Union
Delegates from most of the northern colonies, as well as representatives from the Iroquois tribes met in Albany in June 1754. They met to establish a "Plan of the Union" and develop peace between the governments.

On July 10, 1754, representatives from seven of the British North American colonies adopted the plan. Although never carried out, the Albany Plan was the first important proposal to conceive of the colonies as a collective whole united under one government.
At the Albany Congress of 1754, Benjamin Franklin proposed that the colonies be united by a Grand Council overseeing a common policy for defense. it was an early indication that the British colonies of North America were headed towards unification.
