The executive is selected by the legislative branch (usually, the head will be the leader of the party who won the most seats in the legislative election and that head picks their cabinet of executives). Usually, all high executive members (the cabinet) must be elected in the legislature to hold their position.

CommissionIt would be the Mayor and City Council form of local, municipal government. This form of government is similar to the national form of government. In this type of local government, the Mayor is the administrative, executive head (as is the President of the United States) and the City Council (like the U.S. Legislature) is the legislative body.

A parliamentary government. In a parliamentary system, the executive branch is accountable to the legislature. If the executive is defeated on an important issue or loses a vote of no confidence, they are typically required to resign, leading to the possibility of a new election to form a new government.
A parliamentary form of government chooses it's executive leader (usually called a Prime Minister) from the elected legislative body. In these countries there is usually a head of state who acts as the ceremonial leader.
The parliament elects the Prime Minister, who then chooses the cabinet from the House of Commons and House of Lords.
