While some people like to blame government or complain about government, the truth is that government often does useful things that help the country to run better. The U.S. Constitution described the role of the federal government and set up three branches to run the country, make and enforce the laws, and settle legal disputes about how the constitution is to be applied. Some examples of what government does include collecting taxes, deciding how to use those tax dollars (including building roads and highways), printing money and deciding on what values the coins and bills have, and paying for the defense of the country by our armed forces.
