Allegedly you are ruled by the wishes of the majority of the people. Do not at this or any point in time hold your breath ! The problem is a simple one : If the vote to do something results in say 51 % against 49 % then the 49% have lost & the 51% get the result ! the 49% then moan about it and say the ones who voted for it didnt have a big enough majority...... & then they try to change the rules and want the question rephrased and the curtains are the wrong colour and the vote was taken when it rained 2 days ago and so on.......simple democracy is simple, but it does not exist & probably never will.
Democracy kind of limits the power of the leaders because they change in every four of five years or so. Also, the citizens can live peacefully because the leaders or presidents are doing what the citizens want to do. So there will not be groups of people in the streets shouting for freedom and citizens' rights than monarchy or oligarchy. Although it will take a lot of time listening to the citizens, it will be helpful later in the future if the government is a democratic government

Advantages of indirect democracy include representation of diverse perspectives and the ability of elected officials to make informed decisions on behalf of the population.
