The actual end of the Roman Empire was attributed to the Ottoman Turks who ended it in 1453. However the empire itself had been deteriorating for many years, perhaps centuries. Everything from lack of leadership to lead poisoning has been blamed. The end of the empire was not brought about by one event or one cause. It crumbled due to several factors, among them the economy, poor military leadership, a weakened army, lack of prestige in being a Roman citizen, and the undermining of traditional Roman religious beliefs due to Christianity.
